  I’m doing my best to wait, but I’m not in a patient mood. It’s been two weeks since I first caught a glimpse of Phoebe, and I can’t get her out of my head. I should have taken her then, but I wanted more information about her. A smart man like me didn’t jump into situations without knowing every facet, every intricate detail before I make a move. Not with her.

  Phoebe on the other hand, she has something about her that makes me foolish and eager. Every thought, every action of mine is centered around how it will affect her. Even my latest deal for a cruise liner has to wait because I had to get to her first. I was in the middle of talking shop in Miami with the owner and I ran back to claim my woman before someone else tried. Nothing matters more than her, and nothing and no one ever will.

  I had my driver park a block down out of view, but I still can’t stay inside the vehicle. It’s been only two minutes since they went up to Stanley Minks’s apartment to take my special payment, but it feels like an eternity.

  “No one will harm you,” I promise. My hand slides around her back, and I thrust one into her hair as I pin her to the side of a brick building. “So beautiful,” I growl as I lean in.

  “Hurry,” she cries in a hushed whisper.

  “I can’t go with you. I don’t even know you.” She tries to tug her hand free, but I don’t loosen my grip because she fucking just dry humped me and acts like that shit wasn’t fucking amazing and that she would have done that with anyone as long as she got away from her captors.

  The thought of her grinding against another fucker hits my brain, and I’m pissed. “But you were willing to grind your sweet pussy on me and give me your mouth?” My face hardens, and so does hers.

  She calms herself down, softening her expression, and straightens her body. “Well, I was in danger, and well…”

She marches toward her apartment in a cute huff, but my men know my plans for her, so they jump out of the SUV and slowly crowd her space. I follow close behind her so when she turns around, she crashes right into my chest.

  “Oh, no.” Her tiny hands try to push off of my chest. She shakes her head rapidly while she stares up at me.

  “Don’t worry, Phoebe. I won’t let them hurt you.” I tighten my hold around her waist, dragging her pussy along my bulge. She holds back a moan, giving me only a tiny whimper.

  Chapter Two

  Phoebe

  He looks pissed at me, but he doesn’t say a word. “Drive,” he barks out to the driver.

  My eyes rake over his body, taking in the man who sent lightning bolts of pleasure through me the second I ran into his arms. I should be afraid of him, but I’m not, and that’s scarier because I’ve lost any sense I thought I possessed.

  Was this the way my mother felt when she met my father? No. She told me it was a stupid high-school night out that led to my arrival and their quick but short-lived marriage.

  Fucking hell. I’m in fucking hell. The sexiest man in the world has kidnapped me to get to my father. I don’t even know who he is or what he plans to do with me.

  They want my father’s secrets, and they’ll do whatever they can to get them. My father tried to explain it to me last night, but I was half-asleep when he got home. He wanted us to skip town tomorrow, but they were onto him and one step ahead.

  Now, I’m going to be tortured for answers that I don’t have. I don’t even know anything about my father. He disappeared when I was three, and we didn’t hear from him until my mother’s death. She died six months ago from a long battle with addiction. It took me by surprise when he showed up to claim me a week after her death. He said my mother wrote to him, begging him to look after me.   He’s a mad scientist of sorts. I don’t know what he’s working on because he likes to keep things close to his chest. After we ran out of money trying to get his patent secured, I’d been looking for work, and that’s how they got me. They must have seen me coming from a job interview or a grocery-store run. I never leave the house, so that’s the only way they could have known about me. My father’s probably freaking out. He’s been fantastic since I arrived. When he’s not out working, he’s at the apartment with me and calls to check on me when he’s not there.

  “I don’t know anything,” I exclaim, hoping he’ll believe me and not hurt me. Something tells me that he’s on edge, but he won’t hit me. He wants me physically. It was obvious when he had me against the wall and his giant bulge ground on my core.   Fighting off the stupor he has me under, I question his motives. “Wait. Why would you want me? He doesn’t have any money.” I continue to press my case, but from the look in his eyes, I can see that I’m getting nowhere.

  “I know. He owes me a fortune, and I came to collect.” His eyes rake over me, letting me know how he plans to clear the debt, and my weak body aches to surrender, willingly working off my father’s tab on my back. Wow. I can’t believe the way I’m falling.

  Mesmerized by this pull he has over me, I knit my brows and mutter out, “Who are you?”

  “Theo Christakos.” Greek. He lowers his hand over me, running the back of it along the column of my neck and grazing my rapidly beating pulse.

  Why does his name ring a bell in my head? It’s as if I’ve heard it or seen it before. Then it strikes me where I know it from. “Wait, I saw your name on the paper at the apartment.”

  “Paper?” His hand stills over my shoulder.

  “Yes. It was on a list of other names,” I add, wondering to myself if it was an enemies list. He pulls back from me and adjusts himself to sit up straighter with a confidence in his form. I marvel at how hot that is to see.

  With a shrug of his shoulders, he brushes off that information. “Interesting. Probably all the people he’s swindled, looking for their money. Either way, that doesn’t matter. Your father owes me, and well, I want you. I find it’s a very fair trade. In fact, I might not put a bullet in his head after all.”

  “What?” I screech. “You can’t do that.”

  He spins around in his seat, his thick, long legs touching my thighs with his face so close I can feel his breath on my cheek. “Actually, sweetheart, yes, I can. Every time I think of him, I picture him dead.” The low grumble from his throat sounds as malevolent as his words. He means everything he’s saying.

  “What
do you want with me?” I whisper.

  He runs his fingers down my face and over my pulse. “Everything,” he answers with a husky whisper. Fuck me. My insides are now mush. The deep, resonating sound of just one word sends pleasure shooting through me. He just threatened to kill my father and I’m swooning over him. I must be nuts.

  Appalled at my own reaction to him, I snap out, “And do you think this is supposed to be some sort of way to get what you want?” He abducted me from my home, threatened to kill my father, and yet I’m supposed to surrender to his desires.

  “It’s a start. Don’t pretend that you’re not intrigued, Phoebe. I felt your sweet little curves cling to me like you needed me to make you come.”

  Even his smugness is sexy, and that pisses me off. “I was just trying to hide from your men. Trust me. It meant nothing. It could have been any guy on the street.”

  He growls, and before I can react, he drags me onto his lap so I’m straddling him. His strong hands cup my face. “You will do well to remember that mentioning another guy in front of me will not end well. I don’t give a fuck that you want to score digging points on me. I know you want me. I bet if I slip my fingers under your shorts, your panties will be drenched, so you can quit that shit. I’m not a man who shares, and you’ll remember that I’m not above killing anyone that touches you.”

  “Maybe before. Now that I know who you are—I want nothing to do with you.”

  “The lies you tell with your mouth are only revealed by the rest of you.” He lifts me off of him almost in disgust and sits me back down on the seat next to him.

  After ten minutes of pure silence, I have to ask, “Where are you taking me?”

  “Home.”

  I look out of the window and don’t see anything I recognize. “I’m assuming by home, you mean yours because this isn’t mine.”

  “Oh, it is yours. And you’ll get used to it. Now enough.” He goes back to ignoring me, which upsets me more than it should.
