  I watch her drink from the car as Granger stands inside, doing his duty and keeping his distance. They’re just a bunch of friends and it’s clear from the footage and Granger’s reporting that she has no interest in anyone there. Patience has something I’ve learned especially when it comes to the two things I want the most, the family business and my only love, Elena Kostas.

  She’s been on my mind for years and wait is nearly at an end. “Sir, we have a problem. She’s too drunk and one of the guys is walking her out of the bar. She can barely stand.” I’m out of my vehicle and down the street to a scene that sends me into a violent rage. Elena’s stumbling and this asshole is trying to take advantage of it.

  When I get into the driver’s seat, she asks, “You always follow your employees around to make sure they’re doing their job?” Her words are slurred. Still I make them out. I reach over and brush her hair away from her face.

  “Yes, Cameron,” she sighs, closing her eyes. As we come to a red light, I stare at my wife-to-be and feel a thousand emotions. Rage at that fucker being the top one. He dared to violate her if we hadn’t been watching.

  I call Granger and ask, “Did she drink a lot?”

  “No more than two drinks, Mr. King. Either she’s extremely lightweight or she’s been drugged.”

  My hands wrap around the leather steering wheel, gripping it tightly, until I can hear a slight cracking sound. “Get the footage from inside and find out. Don’t forget to search that punk.”

  “I will.”

  I pull up to my condo and park in my personal parking spot before getting my little sleeping beauty out of the passenger seat.   “Yes, but you put yourself in danger and that’s a whole fucking different story. If it wasn’t for the security I had on you and Cam being nearby to let you crash in his place, you would have been at the mercy of some sick fuck. Hell, do you even remember ending up in Cam’s bed?” My phone takes that moment to ring, allowing me to calm down before I snap on my best friend for talking to his sister like that, even though I’m just as pissed about yesterday.

  I step out of the room and take Granger’s call. “The punk was arrested last night. He went into another bar and tried to drug another student. The bartender caught him and called the cops.”

  “Good. Fucker didn’t learn his lesson.” I suppose it worked out for the best, although I should have beat his ass so he couldn’t have tried to assault another girl.

  I entered my bedroom to Elena’s gasp of “Oh my God.”

  “Relax, he sees you like a little sister.” The fuck I do. I see her as his sister who I want to bang and breed and if I had my way she’d be Mrs. King already.

  “Sorry for the trouble I caused, Mr. King.”

  “It’s Cameron. You know that.”

  “Where’s my dress? I can give you your clothes back now.”

  “Later. That dress needs to be burned,” Elias answers for me like he’s fucking reading my mind. “Let’s get some food in you and home to rest.”

  “Sounds like a smart idea,” I answer before someone else interrupts me.

  Although I say goodbye to them five minutes later, it’s for the best. I let my office know that I won’t be dealing with anything else this morning.   “Lena’s heading to Cabo next week.”

Setting it on the bar-top table, I stare at my best friend and former college roommate as if he’s grown two heads. “You okay?” he asks, staring at me with his brow raised, face mixed with concern and shock, matching mine.

  “Yeah. Caught an air bubble.” I take a deep breath and then let him know what popped into my head instantly. “I can’t believe you’re letting her go.” I grip my beer bottle, trying not to break the damn thing with the angry annoyance racing through me. The feelings bubbling up through my veins at the
moment border on violence right now, but I remind myself that no one knows about my obsession but myself. So how could my best friend know that he’s crossed me, betrayed me by letting his sister go away?

  Elena Kostas has been in my head from the first day I visited them over the holiday break four years ago.   “And I’m guessing you want me to send one of my men down there to watch after her.” I own a high-level security guard firm. We handle lots of clients and are constantly growing. My father owned the firm before he retired and reluctantly handed it over to me. I spent eight years in college getting a dual degree in engineering and technology to expand on the company, making it a multibillion-dollar business with my newly designed software—doing everything to please the pain in the ass, only to find more stipulations in the takeover of the company which included waiting to marry.

  “Actually…” He smiles and pauses. “I was hoping that you could do it.” He squints nervously at me.

  “Me? I’m not a bodyguard.” I’m not going to let anyone else do it no matter what, but that doesn’t mean that I want him to believe that.   “Don’t worry. I’ve got it right here. I asked her for her information because I wanted to make sure she got there safely.   He slides the piece of paper across the table as I pick up my beer. Unbothered, after I finish my swig, I set the bottle down and grab the keys as if unaffected, keeping up the pretense we’re just friends when inside I’m dying for her vacation info.

  My phone rings, interrupting my thoughts, and it’s my security detail on Elena. “She’s gone into the changing room with some skimpy bikinis, sir.” A low growl rips through my chest.

  “Keep everyone away from there, or I will gather the footage and hunt them down.”

  “Understood. Should we just set off the alarms?” he asks, knowing it’ll end any attempts she has at buying that shit.

  “Never, sir.”

  “Good.” I end the call and tuck my phone in my pocket. Granger loves his wife and wouldn’t dare, and it’s the reason I put him on this duty. She thinks it’s her brother’s idea about the personal security.

  Elena tried him once, and he nearly lost his job. It wasn’t because he took her up on the flirting, but he snapped about being taken and that she needed to act like a lady.   Chapter Two

  “Woo!” I cheer, grabbing a drink from the bar and slamming it down hard and fast. It’s stupid, foolish, but knowing his dark eyes are on me, I double down on my ridiculously dangerous behavior. If Cameron King thinks he’s being inconspicuous, he’s not.

  I saw him the second I got off the plane and again when I arrived at my hotel. I tried to pretend that my brother’s best friend wasn’t watching me like a fucking hawk, but there’s no missing that six-foot-three beast in a white dress shirt with the top two buttons undone and sleeves rolled up, looking like a damn model. The bastard is sexy in every way and has absolutely no interest in me—despite the fact that he’s clearly following my every freaking move.

  Normally, they keep Granger on me all the time when I go out shopping or away from the house. Cameron has never been on my detail, but as my brother’s personal lap dog, I bet he sent him here because Granger couldn’t come without his wife, who is very pregnant and more than likely unable to travel. A shiver runs through my spine, wondering how close he’ll be following. It’s time to test my new security.

  Pursing my lips and smiling with wicked intentions, walk through a small crowd over to a little table under the thatched beach hut that overlooks the ocean. Grabbing the edge of the fabric, I tug on my beach coverall, letting the pink floral wrap fall onto the chair while I continue to sway to the music.

  I do my best to ignore Cameron; in fact, I’m not sure where he is or even if he’s bothered to follow or is still on the beach. Maybe another group of bimbos has crowded his space again.
