“Ah!” my mother shouted, jumping up and down. She hugged Macy and then me. “I’m so excited if you can’t tell. Ah!”
“Congratulations, you two,” my father cheered. “Have you told anyone else?”
“I have to call Mark and tell him, but no, I don’t really have anyone to tell.”
“I have to tell Gloria.” I forgot about her friend. She only saw her once since she’d quit, but they chatted often. Her bastard of a husband needed to be strung up from his balls as far as I was concerned, but that wasn’t any of my business. I’d never treat Macy and our kids that way.
Chapter Twenty-Eight
Macy
Four Months later…
I sat at the desk, entering the billing information with Blake, our HR and finance manager, working at her desk across from mine. Since we were the administrative staff, we had a large office separate from the others.
I would be in Sean’s office like he wanted, but then we’d never get anything done. Our hands had a way to be on each other when we were in touching distance. I’d love to have his hands all over me right now.
“Are you okay?” Blake asked.
“Sure, why?”
“You were blankly staring at the door.”
I hadn’t realized that I’d been doing just that until she said it. “Sorry, thinking about that man right there.”
Sean knocked on our open door. I drank him in. He had on a pair of perfectly fitted jeans with his big Texas belt, his white button-up shirt tucked nicely and his collar open, showing his Adam’s apple. I held back a moan and closed my legs.
“What can we do for you, Sean?” I choked out, feeling overwhelmed.
“I need to see you in my office,” he grunted and scowled. Shit. I bit my lower lip, thinking what did I do?
“Okay. Give me five minutes. I have to get these invoices out today.” They could wait, but I wasn’t sure what he was angry about.
“Fine.” He turned around quickly. “Shit, I probably fucked something up.”
“Hmm. I doubt that’s what it is. You could cost the man his company, and I don’t think he’d be mad at you. He probably missed you like you missed him.” I blushed because there was a huge possibility that she was right. “Damn, what I wouldn’t do for the right man to love me that way.”
“You’ll find him, I’m sure of it.” I didn’t expand on that because I’d seen the way Tate looked at her. There was something there, even though neither of them acted on it. Once I had all my invoices done, I got up to walk to his office.
“Come in and lock the door,” he stated, grumbling something about “pain in the ass” under his breath.
“What did I do wrong?” I asked, crossing my arms and staring at my husband.
“Sit on my chair, Macy.” I walked around his desk and sat down on the nice office chair and felt it lean back. I caught a breeze of the fan he had right there.
“Notice anything?” he growled.
“A breeze,” I muttered, then it hit me that I wasn’t wearing any panties. Holy shit, I’d gone the whole day without underwear, and my dress wasn’t exceptionally long. In fact, even though it was a maternity dress, it kind of rode up.
“Yeah, I see you figured it out. Explain to me why you’re walking around the office—fuck, around town—without anything covering my pussy.”
That could explain the insane lust rushing through me; the air conditioning hit my slit as I sat at my desk. “I forgot.”
“And you didn’t notice?” His brows rose, and he crossed his arms. I focused on the way his shirt tightened around his forearms. I bet his seat was going to be soaked if I didn’t get off it. “Well?”
“Sorry. I have this giant belly in my way, and any bit of air is a relief. It’s not like I can really see it well at the moment.” I couldn’t believe my brain was so fuzzy.
“I can see it just fine. If the other fucks out there did, they were smart not to say a word. Now, what should I do about it?” He stepped forward, leaning one hand on each arm of the chair, bracketing me in.
“Um…what is it that you want to do?” I uttered, looking up at him, swallowing hard.
“What I want to do is take you home and put some fucking panties on your ass, but I got fucking work to do.”
“The store is down the street. Getting a pair of undies would be easier than driving home. I’ll go right now,” I told my territorial husband, hoping for Sean’s angry expression that was sexy and full of possessive intent.
“No, you sit your bare-naked pussy right there. I’ll be back in a few minutes.” He moved back and stood up, leaving the office with me inside. I turned the chair to the wall behind his desk. It was full of case information that he was working on. He was the only private investigator we had.
This was a murder case of a twenty-one-year-old girl about six years ago. The mother and father wanted help because the leads had dried up and the case had gone cold. I never wanted to be in their situation, so we promised to do our best. The Houston PD didn’t have a hard time turning over the murder book because they thought there was nothing there and, well, they were too backed up to have a cold-case unit explore the case.
She was beautiful. A blonde and the complete opposite of me, so in my eyes it couldn’t be McManus. I had a feeling that he didn’t start with the twelve. So where are the rest?
“Stop looking at that, baby,” Sean ordered, coming through the door.
“Sorry, I know I shouldn’t, but I was just thinking back to McManus.”
“Sweetheart, I want you to see a therapist. If for no reason than to help you let it out.”
“I’ve let it out with you,” I reminded him.
“You have, but they say it’s better for you to talk to a stranger about this.”
“If it makes you feel better, I will. Now, where are my panties?”
“Oh, those can wait. I can’t let you go back to work with that frown on your face.” He stepped up to me and sat me on the desk. “Let me help you with those.” His hands crept up my thighs without any panties in his hands. “But first...” I shivered, loving the way he teased my skin, but just as he reached my ass, a knock at the door got our attention. “Shit.”
I took the panties he bought and slid on the white cotton before he opened the door. “Later,” I promised, winking and walking out of his office.
Chapter Twenty-Nine
Sean
“Sorry about that, Mr. and Mrs. Dennis. Please take a seat. My wife hasn’t been feeling good today.” I came up with that one out of nowhere, but it had been true throughout most mornings for months.
“We read in the papers that you two met the day of her attack.” I nodded, hoping that my deep emotions didn’t show. “That’s amazing. We only wish we had someone like you that saved our beautiful Caroline. However, we can’t turn the clock back.” Mrs. Dennis choked back sobs.
I understood the terrible pain they were going through. A twist of fate and pure guts and determination had been the difference between the two women.
“Unfortunately, we can’t, but I promise to leave no stone unturned. I’m just getting started because I had to personally pick up the information today.”
“We’re so glad you could do this. The HPD is too busy to take the cold case,” Mr. Dennis grumbled.
“Yes, they have a cold case squad, but the number of cases is overwhelming. But hey let’s be positive. Sometimes these things need a fresh set of eyes, and that’s what I’m here for.” I attempted to reassure them as best as I could, but there were no guarantees.
“Thank you, Mr. Cavanaugh.” Mr. Dennis stood first, then we followed. Shaking his hand and I saw them out.
Once I returned to my office, opened the first banker’s box with the files in them. I pulled out the first large binder.
For the next three hours, I read through it, and one sentence caught me off guard. “I stumbled on the body.” It came from a local reporter, Steven Jacoby, who claimed to be out running. The area she
was found in wasn’t a running trail. If anyone had found the body, it would have been someone hiking.
I read over his statement three times, and it didn’t say anything about why he was running through the wooded area. I looked at his apparel, and he had on a pair of Nike running shorts and a pair of Nike running shoes. Almost all of his clothes seemed too clean for being in the woods. In fact, they looked like they were brand new.
It didn’t add up to me, but he claimed that the pair had been new that day. The shorts bothered me because he would have been scratched up from running and he had no open wounds on his legs.
The body itself had been cleaned before being dumped. There were no traces of DNA other than the victims even though she’d been sexually assaulted and then shot. The killer had gone as far as clipping her nails post mortem.
I read through the next book, hoping that there was more on him, but the cops had the ex-boyfriend as a primary suspect. I looked at his file, and yes, he would have been a good person of interest, but my mind kept going back to the reporter.
The cleanup of the body came off like someone who had done this before. Most attacks from exes were out of rage and jealousy. They were clumsy. This was methodical.
I pulled out statements from the friends and family of hers and began reading through all of them.
A knock shook me out of my zone. “Babe, it’s already seven. Are you ready to go, or I can get a ride from Mark?” Shit, I hadn’t realized how much time had passed. My brother returned two weeks ago and just started here yesterday.
“No, baby. Mark will not be driving you home. It’s my job to take care of you. I’m sorry. Let me grab these files, and we’ll go.” I packed everything up, securing my files in my personal storage vault, then locked up my office.
Almost everyone was gone for the night. Mitchell Stone, another one of Mark’s buddies who joined us before we opened up Cavanaugh Security. He deals with the sales of the tech equipment as well as working alongside Tate for installation.
We have eight people working for us, and we’ll be adding another six in the next year. Denver and Bailey, my old colleague, handled physical security needs along with Mark. We needed more actual guards, but we double and triple checked their backgrounds before we hired anyone.
Some didn’t pass until we dug deeper, so our group was only the most qualified and honest. Once several more of Mark’s buddies retired, they would be given the shot to work with us.
“Are you going to close up soon?”
“Yeah, I have less than an hour before it’s closing time. I doubt we’ll get any more customers this late, but you never know.”
“Well, you have a great night.” We walked out and to our vehicle.
“I’m so ready for bed,” she moaned, climbing into the passenger seat.
“For sleep?” I questioned. I owed her for this afternoon.
“For you,” she hummed.
“Then let’s get you to bed,” I growled, stealing a kiss as I clicked her seatbelt.
Epilogue
Sean
A year later
An arrest has been made in a seven-year-old murder case. A former reporter for the Houston Chronicle has been charged in the death of Caroline Dennis. It has taken nearly a year since the case was brought to a local private investigator. Along with the Houston PD, they were able to bring charges. Let us speak with the Houston PD Superintendent.
I turned off the television because I had more important things to do than even think of that bastard Jacoby. My gut had been right about his story. It didn’t make sense, and when I questioned him again, the slight discrepancy allowed the police to take a closer look. Three days later, they charged him with murder, and the rest was history.
Tonight I had promised to take my beautiful wife out to dinner. Our life had been fortunate, and I couldn’t let the evil mess up this day.
“Are you ready, baby?” I asked, sliding my hands around her slightly rounded belly. I smiled inwardly, knowing that I’d knocked her up again. She swore as she delivered our son that she wouldn’t let me touch her again. That lasted until they cleaned her up, and I brought our baby to her.
“I am. How do I look?” She pulled away from me and spun around in a black dress that twirled and rose to show me some of her upper thighs. I was completely affected. My dick stiffened, pressing hard against my new slacks, testing the strength of the zipper while her outfit tested my own strength to keep my promise.
“Sexy as fuck. I want to skip our date and stay in bed,” I stated, dragging Macy to me, her big breasts on my chest. I had to get myself together before I bent her over the dresser and buried my cock inside her.
“We can definitely do that,” she moaned, clutching onto the lapels of my suit jacket.
“I wish, but I promised you a wonderful night out,” I growled inches from her lips, stealing a kiss. “With the business taking off and me going between here and Houston, I’ve left you to deal with Spencer as well as all the tasks at the office.”
“I think we should hire an office assistant.”
“Do you? If you do, tell Blake to set up the job post. It’s her job, after all, but I want you to be the one to select the candidate.”
“Wow, that was fast. I didn’t even need to argue.” She laughed and shook her head.
I shrugged. She would know more than I would. “I trust your judgment, Macy. You’re brilliant, but it’s busy, and I can’t stop myself from keeping you pregnant.”
“Yes, that does put a kink into running the business productively,” she remarked, sounding disheartened.
“What’s wrong?”
“Nothing,” she muttered, trying to drop a subject I was just getting started with.
“Don’t nothing me, woman.”
“I just worry that people think I’m not holding my own because I’m pregnant again.”
“Who the fuck said that? They will be fired,” I roared.
“No one. I just feel like people do everything they can to help.”
“You’re part owner, Macy. I know you have a hard time seeing that because you’re young, but you’re the reason I did this in the first place. Your help pushed me to reach for my dreams. They know you’re the boss. It’s always great to please the boss. You have the power to fire them. Although, I’d like to know first,” I teased. “It doesn’t matter because they love you. Besides, you’d have to be a dick not to help a pregnant woman.”
“Sorry, I’m just emotional today.”
“I know. Now, give me those lips,” I growled, sliding my hand up the back of her neck and grasping her hair. “You’re my world, Macy.” I kissed her until we were both panting.
“I love you, Sean.”
“Thank fuck for that. Come on, baby. I have to feed you.”
We left our bedroom and headed down the stairs to my parents who were holding Spencer. “You two look fabulous. Have a great night. We’ll keep him in our wing for the night.”
“Thank you, Mom,” Macy said, kissing her cheek and then kissing little Spencer. He was nine months old and smiling with a toothy grin. He had six teeth so far, and it was absolutely adorable. I leaned down and repeated Macy’s moves.
“We love you. Be safe and have a great night.”
“Thank you for watching him.”
“Please, he’s our sweet, little angel. Have a great night.” Macy had to kiss our son one more time before I dragged her out the door. The drive to the restaurant took twenty-five minutes, but it was so worth it. Macy and I loved this little Italian restaurant.
As we pulled into their parking lot, I found a spot and jumped out after turning off the engine. I ran around to her side, opening the door and taking in her beauty. “Have I told you how beautiful you look tonight?”
“I’m sure you did, but I won’t object to hearing it again,” she said, sliding her hand into mine. She hopped down into my arms. I growled and cupped her face and lowered mine, kissing my wife.
I released her, and wit
h my eyes running over her entire body, I shakily spoke, “You are perfection. Macy, you were made for me. What you make me feel is unexplainable. I fucking love you with everything I am. By the way, you look fantastic. Now, let me take you inside before I lose the last bit of control I have.”
We were greeted by the hostess and shown to our table. “Your server will be with you in a moment.” She left us, and that’s when Macy spotted Blake with Denver. We looked at each other in shock. Tate had been in love with her, we both were sure of it.
“Damn, we’re going to have a problem in the office.” And just like that, the scene erupted with Tate storming in, pulling Blake up from her seat, and tossing her over his shoulder and leaving as quickly as he came. Denver didn’t move except to rub his jaw, then he smiled. He ate his food like nothing happened.
“I never saw Tate act like that. I don’t know what just happened,” Macy stated, staring at me with amusement lighting her eyes.
“I have a feeling I do, but let’s focus on us. Monday will come fast enough. But if you want, I can carry you out of here like a caveman,” I remarked, letting my jealousy mar my words.
“Sean, please. You wouldn’t do it because my ass might show. Besides, you’re already my brutish caveman.”
“That I am, baby. That I am.”

"Hey guys, we're gone for the night," Demi says. "It looks great as always," she adds, talking about my new tattoo that Mick is putting the final touches on.
