She was getting so many that she actually turned a lot down.

  With our babies going to school now, she didn’t have time to be working long hours. She didn’t want to let someone else pick them up from school. I understood her need to keep them safe, so either I grabbed them or the guys did when she couldn’t. Every morning she dropped them off then went into the office until it was time to pick them up.   “I had it made with one of your designs. Welcome to your castle, my queen.”

  Chapter One

  Lara

  “T, I want to wear that dress,” I whined to my younger by ten minutes twin sister. The house was clean and ready for our little get together in the woods. We’d inherited three houses, one for each of us Bacon girls. My twin and I had the two smaller ones that are closer together and our older sister, Diana, had the massive one down the road. Each of the houses were beautiful just from the images we received at the will reading. Why two complete strangers wanted to give them to us was a mystery, but you never look a gift horse in the mouth. We signed the papers and now we were ready to celebrate.

  What was interesting was the owners must have been leasing them out because you could see some things that belonged to men. I wondered if there were workers in the area that must have stayed here instead of making the long drive. It was quite a ways from our home in Colorado Springs.

  She adjusted the dress and stared at herself in the mirror. “Bitch, I don’t care. I grabbed it first. Besides, it doesn’t go with your eyes.” It was all black, it went with everything. Our grandparents were just out to make us happy and let us do as we pleased. Now we’re ready to party. The music and drinks were set up and everything was ready to go but us.

  “Whatever, your ass looks fat in it anyway. I’ll go with the red dress. Maybe we’ll find some boyfriends there. You did remember to invite tons of people, right?”

  “Of course, I did. Do I look stupid to you?” she asked, while staring at herself in the mirror, eyes wide as she applied her mascara.

  “Is that a rhetorical question?” I asked, laughing as I walked back into the closet to get the dress. I came back out with it in my hands, swinging it from side to side.

  “I’m going to beat your ass one day,” she said while applying her gloss and mean mugging me through the mirror.

  The house wasn’t huge. It had three bedrooms and an office. I didn’t have the key to the latter, but if I didn’t get one, I’d call a locksmith to come and change it. I stared at myself, knowing that I looked good, but I still felt like something was missing. I had to fin

  “It’s not that warm outside today. Let me check the thermostat,” I said. I walked out of the room just as there was a knock at the door.

  Chapter Two

  “Bro, why the fuck did they give away our property?” Alejandro asked our older brother, Diego. We had just learned the homes we stayed in when we wanted to be alone in the mountains had been given away. How my grandparents managed it was a surprise to us.

  “I don’t know. They weren’t senile or anything. I looked into it and it’s all legal. I’ve been over it with our lawyers. I think we need to contact these ladies and pay them to leave.” I could hear Diego’s frustration. It was his little sanctuary from the busy life. He went up there to read and relax.

  “We can. We’re going up there today. I want to start considering packing up our things. It’s not a lot of shit, but I refuse to let these broads take what belongs to me. Plus, I need to clear out my office.” I was so damn pissed off about this, for all of us. It didn’t make any sense. How dare someone take my favorite place, the one I thought I would one day bring my mate to while we loved each other every night.

  “Well, they can be there already. Let me pull their information.”

  “No, don’t bother. I’m not even going to say a thing to them. I just want my stuff. I’ve got plenty of money to buy another house.” I loved Diego, but he was the typical levelheaded older brother.
