  “You evil little bitch,” Brandon’s dad roars, bringing the vehicle to a violent and immediate stop. He pulls out a gun, and I stab him in the arm as he pulls the trigger, blowing out the back window. I yank my knife out and shank him in the hand like I did Brandon, causing him to drop his gun. Brandon jumps at me, but the door’s still open so I kick my feet and send him falling out of the door before searching for the gun. I get my hand on it when I hear gunfire and motorcycles.

  I steal a glance out of the front window to see Boomer and Ghost, and then Anthony comes up in his beast of a truck. Brandon grabs my foot, but he's a fool. I bring the gun forward and shoot him in the shoulder. I don't know what I'm doing, so I scream and fall back onto the seat.

  "Jules," Anthony shouts, running toward us full speed. He pulls his knife out and tosses it straight at Brandon's dad, hitting him in the chest like it's a ninja star.

  "Anthony," I cry out, and he pulls me out of the truck. "Anthony," I sob.

  "They're still alive. Call the police," Boomer shouts to someone, but all I can do is hold tightly to my husband, crying against his chest.

  "I've got you, my precious wife." He holds me as if I'm going to disappear, and I don’t want him to let me go ever again. I don’t want to go outside ever again.

  The sound of sirens in the background is the next thing I hear. Anthony hasn’t let me go, kissing my face and mouth between words of love.

  “Are you hurt?”

  “Not really. A little sore and very scared. I’ve never shot a gun before.”

  “It’s okay. I’m going to get you home soon and run you a bath. No working or anything for the next few days until I feel like I can breathe again. Fuck, baby, I thought I lost you.”

  "I tried to escape."

  "I know. You're one hell of a fighter. I'm not going to let them get away."

  "They won't," Beast says as he approaches with Doc. "He's already on trial for your attempted rape and murder, so this only solidifies the case against them if they live, and the death penalty will be on the table."

  "Are you serious?"

  "Yes. They tried to eliminate their primary witness and the one who could put him away."

  "For all they know, you all came after us."

  "If only we didn't have you on surveillance and have Blade's voicemail, threatening to shoot Jules," Beast adds.

  The state troopers arrive along with the ambulances for them while they take my statement and I do my best to recount the situation. "I just don't know how they knew when to attack."

  "We'll review the surveillance and see if they came into town with anyone else."

  "What happened to the guys who went after you?" I ask, worrying that they were still on the loose.

  "They fled, my love," Anthony says. I get a wink from Boomer, and I know they didn't flee. They already took care of them. Good. I find some peace in that notion. I was never one to believe in murder, but after what happened to me, I know damn well that danger lurks around every corner; if you don't get rid of your enemies, they'll come for you.

  They let us go, and Anthony helps me into the vehicle. He takes me home where everyone is gathered to bring me some food and comfort. All of the women in town know damn well how scary people can be, but I brought this trouble with me. I wish I didn’t listen to my mother and go out with Brandon in the first place. We shared like a total of two kisses because he’s a shit kisser and I was grossed out. My sixteen-year-old boyfriend I’d had for two weeks kissed much better, although he kissed all the girls and now some of the boys, from what I hear.

  They only stay for about half an hour because the adrenaline is fading and it’s clear that I’m feeling the weight of the day on me. Anthony carries me up to our room after locking up the house. There are Riders and prospects patrolling the area, but honestly, with them in jail, I believe the threat is gone.

  Chapter Thirteen

  Blade

  I tuck her into bed, hoping that she sleeps well. She’s been given a Norco to deal with the pain and help her sleep. The jolting of the vehicle as well as being manhandled by those fucks caused my baby a lot of pain. I’m going to enjoy tonight. I can’t get Brandon and the State Senator myself, but I can get their minions.

  I lean over Jules and kiss her forehead and then her lips. “Be good, beautiful. I have to go to work.”

  “Make them pay,” she whispers sleepily.

  “I will, my sweet wife. You’re safe here. Doc is downstairs if you need anything.”

  “Okay,” she moans. I steal one more peck before pushing myself away.

  Doc and Boss promise to sit here at the house while I go deal with those fucks. I grab my special kit from the secured safe in my closet and head to Church. Someone’s going to need to send up their silent prayers. Denver Banks is meeting us as well. He wants a piece of these assholes.

  The drive to the clubhouse is full of ideas. I ride my motorcycle so I can get there faster and make them pay. Three fuckers were on the way to my house as I rushed out to my truck to get my wife back. I called Boomer and Boss, who had been nearby. We got the guys trying to sneak into my home and then tied them up. The prospects along with Mick and Cowboy brought them to our special room.

  There are no words for what I want to do to these fucks. The last time I got to slice someone up, they’d attacked my brother-in-law with the intent of getting at my sister as well. That son of a bitch paid with his life, but I took my time.

  I'm only going to take my time because I want answers. I need answers. A niggling feeling in the back of my mind screams that her mother and stepfather were involved, but I need proof before they can be dealt with.

  When I arrive, so does Mr. Banks. "Denver, I'm glad you could make it."

  "I wouldn't have missed it for the world. My wife and I want to see Jules for ourselves if we can."

  "Sure. She's sleeping, but you can stay in one of the guest rooms."

  "We're staying with Jackson and Penny so we can see the baby. That's where my wife is now."

  "Good. Stop by in the morning. Now, let's handle these bastards."

  "Damn right." He rolls up his sleeves. Gone is the suit he normally wears, and instead he wears a pair of track pants and a long-sleeved tee. We enter the clubhouse and head straight to the clean-up room where our guests are waiting.

  "Sorry to keep you waiting, fellas," I say, pulling out my pocketknife before setting down the kit on the table.

  "What the fuck?"

  "Shit."

  "Yes, shit it is. Why the fuck were you trying to kill my niece?"

  "Who is this bitch?" I ask Banks.

  "This is her step-cousin. Walker's nephew, Alan."

  "Alan, care to explain yourself?" I ask.

  "I needed the money."

  "What did your uncle pay you?"

  "Only two stacks until the job was done, and then we'd get another ten K from his father."

  "You fucked up. They sent you into the belly of the beast."

  "You can only beat me tied down, so you're no beast. Just a big ol’ pussy." I let out a barking laugh that echoes throughout the concrete slabs.

  "This coming from a man who boxed in a woman and forced her to be taken at gunpoint. Sure, you're a real man. A man. Ha. I don't need to tie you down. The only reason you're there is that you're a little bitch and would try to run."

  "Then kill me already."

  "Nope. It doesn't work that easily. See, my wife is going to suffer from this second attack for a long time—months, if not years. Maybe that's what I should do to you? What do you think, guys? Should we string these fucks up until they die and let them fester in here? Or do we end it tonight?"

  "I don't know. Jules is going to be struggling until she can get past the fear of leaving her house. I don't think they should get off that easily."

  "Why don't you take us to jail?"

  "It serves us no purpose. Give us a reason to spare you."

  "I don't know anything. They only told us the first plan
didn't work and the drugs must have not kicked in yet."

  "What the fuck are you talking about?"

  "They spiked her tea the first time, but it must have been too weak of a dose or he went in too soon."

  "How did he get into her house?"

  "Her parents met him in the driveway, gave him the code and keys."

  "Are you sure?"

  "Yes." Banks takes his gun out and finishes the first guy while Alan and his silent partner watch. The next guy gets it as well, but I want Alan to suffer. I slice a smile across his face and then add three swipes to each arm, light, non-fatal cuts, because I want him to suffer enormously.

  We spend the next hour checking on him on and off while we let him stare at his friends. Each one of them deserved their fate many times over. They had brass balls when they attacked my wife and talked shit the entire time until I appeared. Then, they didn't have shit to say.

  I walk back into our meeting room and take a seat. "So are we going to discuss the elephant in the room or not?" Banks asks.

  "What do you mean?"

  "Her parents. They set her up. Do we do away with them, or find a way to trap them and send them to prison?"

  "I'd like to skin her stepfather alive and let the other two kill each other to see who would win, but I won't hurt my wife. She doesn't love them because of all the pain they've caused, but she might not want me to kill them."

  "Since we got rid of these fucks, we can't say they told us. We'll have to find a different avenue if we go that way."

  "Cyber, can you pull all of the Walkers' personal information? Banking, everything?"

  "Yes. I'll get on it first thing in the morning."

  We spend the next two hours cleaning up our mess and taking the bodies to be disposed of. It won't take long for the pigs to do their job, but Cowboy and Ghost will be looking over the work. By the time I finally check on Alan boy, he's completely passed out. A sense of guilt fills me, and I finish him off with my blade. I'll let the guys deal with him.

  "So I'll see you in the morning. How is nine for you?"

  "That should be okay. Jules needs all the company she can get. I don't want her to be frightened for the rest of her life."

  “We’ll do all we can. The boys will be coming down to visit when they get a chance. It’s been rough with being on call.”

  “No. I get it. I really appreciate that you came here.”

  “She’s like a daughter to me. My brother would be rolling over in his grave if he saw the way she was being treated. I never knew the true extent of the abuse or I would have removed her years ago.” Yes, Jules told me her dad had died of a heart attack while out golfing with Mr. Banks. I know that’s total bullshit. He’d been on a secret mission when the heart attack came. It shocked them all that he had a bad heart. It makes me want to get another physical so Jules knows I’m okay. I’d hate for her to worry that something like that could happen to me so young.

  “Do you believe they abused her physically?”

  “No. Purely mental. Although I would definitely ask if she had anything to drink during the first attack. What had they tried to give her?”

  I nod, and we shake hands. “I better get back to her. I don’t want her to worry about being without me. Fuck, I let her out for one day without me, and this happens.”

  “I know. It’s like you have to lock her up.”

  “And that shit isn’t cool either.” We walk out together, and I head home while he takes off to Jackson’s house.

  I slide into the house, sending Doc and Boss home. Jules didn’t wake while I was gone, which is really fucking good, but I have to hold my wife tight for my own sanity.

  Stripping down and washing up, I climb into bed, pulling Jules back to my chest. “No,” she cries out. “Let me go!” Fuck, my heart’s breaking.

  “Precious, it’s me, Anthony.”

  “Anthony,” she sighs so sweetly, turning in my arms.

  “I love you, Jules Santini.”

  “I love you, Anthony Santini. Thank you for whatever you’ve done tonight that will let me sleep peacefully.”

  “Anything for you.” I brush my lips against hers. What starts off as a soft, promising kiss turns into so much more when she pulls me onto her. I carry my weight with my forearms so I don’t crush her. “What do you need?”

  “I need you slow and sweet,” I growl against her throat, gently kissing her pulse. My hands lazily slide up her nightgown until I can feel her bare skin.

  “No panties?”

  Jules

  It’s been a month since the attack and I’m nowhere near ready to leave the house, but I’m going to force myself to do it because I can’t live in fear forever. Anthony’s going to drive me to meet with Sophia so I can relax and get used to the outside world, but we’ve gotten a little distracted this morning.

  "Jules, what the hell? I didn't mean to hurt you. Please let me in there." I'm trying to pee on the damn stick, but it's not working, so I run the tap and there it goes. I nearly drop the fucker into the toilet when Anthony knocks on the door again. "Please talk to me, Jules."

  "Give me one second." I set the stick on the back of the toilet and finish my business and wash my hands. I grab the stick and close the cap on it and walk to the door, unlocking it to find Anthony almost falling into the bathroom. Was he going to break the fucker down?

  Both of us naked, I take his hand and lead him to the sink. It takes him a minute to register the results, which were almost immediate. "We're having a baby?"

  "Yes, big boy. You're gonna be a daddy soon."

  "Fuck, yes!" He twirls me in his arms. "I'm sorry. I need to be more careful with you."

  "Just my breasts. They're extremely sensitive. I felt queasy this morning, but it passed, then this. Sorry. I just had to know."

  "It's about the only thing that could make up for you leaving before I've made you come."

  "Um...technically you made me come twice already."

  Suddenly, I hear my phone ringing. “It’s probably Sophia. I better get it before she freaks out and sends the guys out looking for us.”

  "Okay. Get your butt over here soon. I need help with all this dang planning and I'm hungry."

  "It's up to you. I know you want to tell your parents, right?"

  "Yes. They'll be pissed if they find out from someone else."

  "Go ahead and tell them. I need to call Penny first, so she doesn't get upset when I let it slip."

  "Okay." He takes a seat on the foot of our bed and pulls me down beside him while he dials his mom's cell. She picks up immediately. "Is everything okay?"

  "Yes. Everything is fine. In fact, it's great." I can hear the giddiness in Anthony's voice.

  "Oh my God. You're having a baby."

  "What? How did you know?"

  "You sound too happy, and there's nothing—aside from getting laid, which I’m sure you didn't call to tell me—that could account for that level of happiness.”

  "Nope, but you're right. Jules is pregnant."

  "I'm so freaking happy I could hug you both. I can't wait. How far along? Have you seen the doctor? Do you know what you're having?"

  "Slow down, Ma. We just found out. She's not far along, and we'll have to figure out the rest when the time comes. Where's Dad?"

  "Tinkering in the garage. I'm going to brag that I knew first."

  "Yeah, well. I've got to go. We're heading out. I'll give you guys a call tomorrow."

  "Okay. Be safe. I love you both." He ends the call and gets up.

  "Come on, wife. We have to meet Sophia before she freaks. Call Penny on the way there."

  "I will." We finally make it out of the house, and I dial Penny. Lately she and I have been playing phone tag because she's always so busy between the shop and the baby. I really should face my fears and get out there into the real world. I could be helping Penny since I'm not working at all.
